Chicago, IL - April 8, 2011 - The 2011 Asbestos Bankruptcy Conference, featuring a judicial roundtable on asbestos compensation, will be held on Monday, June 20, at The Peninsula Hotel in Chicago. Cochairing the event, organized by Perrin Conferences, are John D. Cooney of the law firm Cooney & Conway in Chicago and Michael K. Rozen of Feinberg Rozen in Washington, D.C.

Asbestos compensation-which has featured prominently in several recent bankruptcy cases-remains a significant and often difficult issue decades after the dangers of asbestos have been proven scientifically. The grave diseases triggered by asbestos exposure typically manifest many years after asbestos fibers have been inhaled.

Even though the link between asbestos and deadly diseases such as lung cancer and mesothelioma-an incurable form of cancer that strikes the protective lining covering the lungs and other organs-is well known, asbestos can still be found in countless older structures, from homes and schools to ships. Asbestos was widely used for decades thanks to its resistance to heat and fire.

Mesothelioma, in particular, can prove catastrophic for its victims, both physically and financially. Medical treatment is extremely expensive. The disease itself is painful and debilitating, and many mesothelioma patients succumb within a year of diagnosis.

Registration for the conference includes private website access to course materials, continental breakfast, lunch, refreshment breaks and networking receptions. Attendees registering before April 29, 2011, will receive $100 off the $795 conference cost. Attendance by in-house counsel and insurance professionals is complementary (special restrictions apply). Group discounts are also available.

A block of hotel rooms has been reserved for attendees who wish to stay overnight. Please call the Peninsula Chicago at 312-337-2888 or 1-866-288-8889, and reference the Perrin Conferences room block. The conference room rate is $199 a night.

Applications are being made to all CLE and CE states as requested by attendees. Credit hours will be announced as soon as approvals are received.
