Los Angeles, CA-Former football player, actor, and sportscaster, Merlin Olsen, filed a lawsuit against NBC Studios, NBC Universal, 20th Century Fox Film Corporation, Sherwin Williams, and Lennox amongst other companies, in which he claims his exposure to asbestos has led to the development of mesothelioma cancer. Olsen filed the lawsuit on Thursday, December 31, 2009 in the L.A. County Superior Court, as reported by TMZ.
According to the lawsuit, Olsen claims he was exposed to the known human-carcinogen, asbestos, while he worked after school as a manual laborer when he was 10 or 11-years-old, when he was doing drywall work later in life, and when he was employed at NBC and 20th Century Fox. Olsen, who was diagnosed with mesothelioma cancer a few months ago, is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments. The lawsuit states the defendants in the case "were engaged in the business of manufacturing, fabricating, designing, assembling, distributing, leasing, buying, selling, inspecting, servicing, installing, repairing, marketing, warranting and advertising a certain substance the generic name of which is asbestos."
Olsen calls the cancer "a vicious, painful, and invariably fatal malignancy." There is no known cure for mesothelioma cancer, which attacks the lining of the human body's internal organs.
