On June 9, 2010, Cooney & Conway filed suit on behalf of the estate of Martin C. in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Ill. The complaint states that Mr. C. suffered from mesothelioma as a result of exposure to asbestos while enlisted in the U.S. Navy as a Boatswain's Mate from 1974 to 1977 and through his employment as an insulator from 1977 to 1979 in Illinois and Indiana. While serving with the Navy, Mr. C. worked with asbestos-containing products on the U.S.S. Bainbridge and at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center. In addition, as an insulator, Mr. C. was exposed to asbestos-containing products at numerous jobsites, including Amoco Oil, American Can, Commonwealth Edison Collins Station, and U.S. Steel Garyworks Plant. Mr. C. was also exposed to asbestos secondarily through his father, James C., who worked as an insulator throughout Mr. C.'s childhood at various jobsites from 1959 to 1969, including Amoco Chemical, Union Carbide, Standard Oil, Joliet Arsenal, Bethlehem Steel, and Northern Petrochemical. Mr. C. also received secondary exposure through his brother, John C., who worked as an insulator as well from 1975 to 1977 at sites including Union Oil, Caterpillar, Sherwin-Williams, Inland Steel, Wisconsin Steel, Youngstown Sheet and Tube, and Stauffer Chemical.
